Malcolm Travis Cook, III
SAVANNAH- Malcolm Travis Cook III, 83, passed away peacefully on February 5, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 9, 1929 in Rockwood, Tennessee and grew up in Dracut, Massachusettes.
Mal owned the local Geico Insurance Agency for 44 years and was named the Geico Agent of the year in 1995. In his earlier years he was an outstanding football player. He played for Keith Academy in Lowell, Massachusetts, was the Quarterback for the University of Georgia and played professional football for the Chicago Cardinals. He served in the Korean Conflict in the Air Force. Mal established and directed the initial Athletic program at the Jewish Education Alliance. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling. He was a past President of the Georgia Seniors Golf Association. Mal's happiest days were spending time with his family and friends and attending the Georgia Football games.
He is survived by his loving wife of ¬¬¬59 years, Catherine Skeadas Cook of Savannah. Two children: Anthony M. Cook, DDS and his wife Julie, Kristine Cook Maletis and her husband Chris. Four grandchildren: Catherine Maletis, Margaret Maletis, Travis Cook and
Alexis Cook.
Visitation: Thursday Feb. 7th from 5-7 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm at Fox and Weeks Funeral Home, Hodgson Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, February 8, 2013, at The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Bishop Boland, celebrant. The Graveside Service to follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the following for their extraordinary care they provided to Mal and the family: Dr. Gifford Lorenz, Mayo Clinic, Shepherd Center, Coastal Home Care, the VA Clinic and the Fisher House in Augusta which houses the family of hospitalized Veterans.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mayo Clinic Florida. Mayo Clinic, Dept. of Development, 4500 San Pablo Road, Jacksonville, FL 32224 or to the Fisher House. Checks payable to Augusta Warrior Project. 1190 Interstate Parkway, Augusta, GA 30909.
